Building an elevated deer blind

Framing the floor frame

The first step of the project is to frame the floor for the hunting house. Cut the components from 2×6 lumber at the right dimensions. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the edges are flush and check if the corners are square.

Fit the 4×4 posts for the elevated deer blind into the ground. Dig 2-3′ into the ground and then set the posts into concrete. Use a spirit level to plumb the posts before attaching the 2×6 beams to the bottom. As you can imagine, you can adjust the size of the posts to suit your needs.

Fitting the floor frame

Attach the floor frame to the top of the posts. Use a spirit level to¬†check if the frame is perfectly horizontal. Drill pilot holes through the frame and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the posts.

Attaching the floor frame

Attach the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the floor frame. Align the edges with attention. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws, every 8″ to lock the sheets into place tightly. Leave no gaps between the sheets for a neat result.

Back wall – Frame

Build the back wall frame for the deer blind from 2×4 lumber. Cut the components at the right dimensions, using the information from the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the studs.

Side walls – frame

Assemble the frames for the side walls from 2×4 lumber. Place the studs every 16″ on center. As you can notice in the diagram, the horizontal window opening will be large enough for you to have a great view.

Building the front wall

Frame the front wall of the deer blind. As you can see in the image, you have to leave enough space for the door opening.

Fit the wall frames to the floor of the hunting blind. Align the edges flush and then secure them into place with 3 1/2″ screws. Lock the adjacent walls together with 3 1/2″ screws, after making sure the corners are square.
