“Oh my goodness!!” …. “What should I do?”… These are just some of the reactions to a bad hair day. Every morning we all get up, get ready and hope for a good hair day but this isn’t always the case. Having a bad hair morning can be detrimental, especially if you have a synthetic hairpiece or wig. With synthetic hair a bad hair day is like an uninvited guest. Realistically, a synthetic piece is ready to wear; however, synthetic pieces can tangle and frizz as well. To think tangles will never happen with your synthetic product would be naive. Lucky for you we are here to help when those tangles rear their ugly heads.
Before we can get into the process of detangling your synthetic piece, you need to understand the synthetic fiber. Synthetic hair is designed to be a ready to wear fiber and it is considered to be a “memory” fiber. Memory fibers hold the style of the product and offer little to no versatility. Heat friendly synthetic fibers are the only synthetic fibers that can be altered. Keep in mind the estimated life span of a synthetic hair product is approximately 4-6 months. With proper care your hair can last longer.

Keep in mind you can only use synthetic care products on synthetic hair.
All synthetic products should be washed every 6-8 wears to avoid tangling and product build up. When washing your synthetic hair, DO NOT SOAK THE HAIR. You always want to wash you hair under a running faucet with room temperature water.

I never knew that emersing a synthetic wig to was it was not good. Thank you for that valuable bit of information. In all honesty, if you take very good care of your synthetic wigs, they can last up to a year or more. I’ve had some of my wigs for well over a year. I’m obsessive.
After each wear, I carefully remove the wig then turn it inside out and very gently and sometimes not so gently I take a wig brush or a wide-toothed comb and detangle. Then I take a hairnet and place the wig in the hairnet and then it goes back in the wig box. ( With limited room, I have to store my wigs that way).
If a wig has had a “long day”, I’ll spritz with wig conditioner or with a silicone primer (yes. face primer) and will keep the wig overnight on a styrofoam head and then will store the wig.
I also rotate my wigs. I won’t wear one more than three days in a row. I do have multiples in the same styles.
When a wig really starts getting wonky at the ends, I’ll run a flat iron over those wonky ends only if the unit is heat friendly. Sometimes I’ll trim the dead ends away.
I try to get my money’s worth with every wig. And I do find the shorter units have a longer life than my longer units.
Thank you for a helpful post!
