One of the basic components of creating farmhouse style is to use everyday, utilitarian materials in a new and fresh way. Burlap, drop cloth, jute and wicker are some of the fabrics and surfaces used to add texture to a space and layer in the farmhouse look. Want to introduce your home to a little more farmhouse style? One of the easiest ways is to use galvanized metal.

Galvanized metal comes in different shapes and is used for different items in home décor. It’s inexpensive and affordable and easy to find at thrift stores and discount stores alike. Ready to get started? Here are a few tips and ideas to create the farmhouse look using galvanized metal accents.

1. Metal Spheres

Metal spheres come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Typically, they are round hoops of metal welded together to create an orb. The texture of the sphere creates depth and visual interest when layered in with greenery or chippy, distressed wood.

Display your galvanized metal spheres on countertops, bookshelves or create a simple centerpiece with jute accent pieces and twigs from the yard. You could also create a topiary for your side table by placing the metal sphere on top of planted ivy and winding the stems through the center of the intertwined hoops.

Boxes like this could be used in the kitchen to hold recipes or the living room to hold dice and cards. Stack them in the butler’s pantry to hold fresh towels or the study to hold papers or notes. Whatever the space, galvanized metal is the perfect storage solution while still being stylish and functional.

3. Metal Urn and Galvanized Metal Garden Ornament

Farmhouse style is easy to create when you bring the outside in. Here, we’ve stacked an outdoor garden urn with a metal sphere that can be opened to add plants or twigs. The simplicity of the metal adds texture to the room and blends with the painted wood floor and monogrammed drop cloth pillow.

Using the same display, you could add ivy to the urn and place the sphere on the top as an accent piece. You could also add a grouping of the metal sphere and fill with burlap or greenery. The key is to re-purpose items in a new way to fit your own décor.

4. Galvanized Metal Letters, Numbers or Symbols
